TANYA COCKRELL, MSN,FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC

  Tanya Sharp Cockrell is a dually board-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with about 16 years of experience in the healthcare industry.

Mrs. Cockrell is a native of Crawford, MS, and a graduate of West Lowndes High School.  She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and graduated Cum Laude from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS in May of 2006.

She returned to school after working 6 years as a Registered Nurse for her Practitioner degree because she felt an internal calling to provide healthcare in a more direct way. She obtained her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Union University in Jackson, TN in December 2013.

Tanya practiced as a Family Nurse practitioner at a federally qualified rural health center that covered Lowndes, Clay, Oktibbeha, Noxubee, Winston, Kemper, and Lauderdale counties serving those without insurance and reduced economic resources.

She again became passionate about the number of mental health disorders she was encountering while managing her patients and felt a need for more specialized mental health training to better serve them. She returned to school in 2021 and obtained a postgraduate degree in psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP).

Tanya’s goal is to use both of her certifications to offer comprehensive, holistic care to the people in Lowndes and surrounding areas. She is excited to become the first privately owned clinic in her area to offer primary and mental health services under one roof. She hopes that she can be a change agent that can improve the physical and mental health of her community. She looks forward to becoming a resource to others in her area that
have thought about doing the same thing but aren’t quite sure how to navigate that process.
